Making time for Yourself

Sometimes we find it hard making time for ourselves. We may not see the importance of taking time out to renew our minds but I am here to say that it is a necessity. We can get so caught up with the stresses of everyday life that we neglect to spend time on ourselves. Spending time on ourselves can include listening to our favorite songs or spending just a little longer in the shower just enjoying the alone time. It can also include taking a weekend out to go to the Spa to get a massage or a manicure/pedicure. Even visiting your hairdresser is considered “me time”. We can’t allow our jobs and everything else to consume our time that we neglect ourselves. If we don’t take care of ourselves first we cannot be the best version of ourselves to give to anyone else.

It is important to remember to make regular visits to the doctor and to the dentist to ensure that everything checks out for us. It is also important that we make time for exercise so as to ensure that we are in the best shape physically. For the person reading who may be finding it difficult to work out alone like I do, find someone that is willing to do it with you. This can include your spouse or a close friend. Just remember that our physical health is just as important as any other area of our lives.

We should all aim to get into the habit of investing in ourselves. For those reading that may have kids I am sure that you can agree that when kids come along it is even harder finding time for yourselves. I know taking care of kids can be tiring and can take a lot out of you. This is why it is so important to ensure that you are always performing at your best. If you are someone that is into taking pills ask your doctor for a recommendation for a good multivitamin. There are also organic multivitamins available which are free from chemicals and are better for you also.

So ask yourself today, “How full is my cup?” “Am I spending more time filling someone else’s cup while my cup is almost empty?” If the answer to the last question is yes or maybe then it’s time to start focusing on yourself a bit more. Our bodies belong to God and he calls us to take care of our Bodies. He can call us at any time to do works in his kingdom. We therefore need to ensure that we continually take care of our bodies to ensure that we can carry out these works. His word says in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”

Start taking better care of YOU today loved ones.

Love Charly

  1. This is so important!! We can’t pour into others when we’re empty, but too often we try to. It reminds me of the oxygen mask illustration. You have to put yours on first before helping others.

So important that we take care of ourselves and our own needs first!

  4. I love the cup metaphor! We should really value ourselves before we try spilling into other’s lives. This is so eye-opening!

  5. Yes yes!!! It’s so hard to do, but such a good encouragement, Thank you!

  6. Good advice, Charly. It is very easy to put ourselves and our own needs and health off for the sake of others. But it is so important to take care of ourselves. Thanks for posting. – Amy

  7. Lately, my cup has been getting fuller, thanks to a lot of the tips you have shared in here. I am just starting to venture into new hobbies that help me clear my mind and enjoy some peace. And I’ve been really focusing on reigning in my health too and making better choices there. When I don’t take care of me, it turns into a mess for everybody so it’s really important (like you said) that I make time to take care of me so I can give my best to those around me.

  8. This is so important for women especially as we tend to neglect ourselves and put everyone else’s needs before our own. thank you for sharing.

  9. Always important. If we aren’t at our best and our healthiest we can’t give those who rely on us our best. It’s not selfish, it’s essential.

  10. This is so important. I’ve been working on meditation!
